Is This the Dress That Stood Out Under the Spotlight?
I had just returned from the capital city, where I participated in the prestigious Mrs. Pageant.
The grand halls, shimmering lights, and the buzz of anticipation still lingered in my mind.
Though I won the Mrs. Best Dress award, celebrating my unique presence and grace, I couldn’t shake off the disappointment of not winning the overall title.
My goal was to become a mature model, inspired by the successes of Deshun Wang, Caroline Labouchere and many more from different countries.
The organizer’s poster promising both a model and pageant search sparked my interest.
With a passion for fashion and modeling, this seemed perfect.
However, the pageant was organized last minute, with only one or two weeks' notice.
We were all scrambling to prepare, with little experience compared to seasoned participants.
Despite the rush, I was determined to give my best effort.
Back home, I looked at the sashes for the awards with pride and contemplation.
I realized that life is not about winning or losing but about the journey and the lessons learned.
I wanted to impart this wisdom to my son and other youngsters: that failure is not the end, but a stepping stone to growth. "It's okay not to be at the top," I told myself. "What matters is what you learn and how you improve."
Through this experience, I learned the hard way that I had self-doubt.
So, I began to build self-confidence, practice hard, boost my self-esteem, and engage in positive self-talk.
I also started teaching my son and other young people about resilience and self-confidence.
One evening, I shared my disappointment with my son, and he said something that struck me: "You did great, mom! and you won something and were in the top 5 at least.”. My husband also showed how proud he is of me.
They reminded me to celebrate my achievements and learn from my experiences.
I sat down with my son and said, "You are right! I should celebrate what I have and what I’ve learned and gained!" I continued, "I want you to understand something important. When I didn't win, I felt disappointed, but then I realized that the result doesn't define who I am. What defines me is what I learned and how I grew from the experience. I met incredible people, discovered strengths I didn't know I had, and came back richer in spirit." I encouraged him to pursue his dreams relentlessly, never fearing failure.
Besides encouraging my son, I also want to share these heartfelt messages with all of you:
It's never too late to learn, to chase your dreams.
Never be afraid to fail, because every setback is an opportunity to learn and grow.
Keep the faith, put your nose to the grindstone, and let your hair down.
Life is about the journey, the experiences, and the growth that comes from it.
My story became a cherished reminder that true success is in the journey, not the destination.
As I inspired others, my light grew brighter, shining as a beacon of hope and strength for dreamers and strivers.
